Copilot Could Soon Open Web Links Inside the App, No Browser Needed

Microsoft has added GPT-5.3 Instant to Copilot and Copilot Studio, and now the company plans a new feature that keeps link-based work inside the Copilot desktop app.

According to Neowin, instead of sending you to a browser, Copilot can open web links in a side pane next to the chat. You keep the conversation and the page visible at the same time, which cuts down on tab switching during research and writing.

When you click a link in Copilot chat, the page loads inside the Copilot window. The layout places the webpage on one side and your conversation on the other, so you can reference sources while you keep prompting.

Microsoft also lets Copilot use the opened page as context for tasks. You can ask it to summarize what you see, pull out key facts, or use the content to help draft an email or document.

Permissions, password sync, and privacy questions

Microsoft keeps webpage access disabled by default and requires you to grant permission before Copilot can use page content. The company also added an option to sync website passwords with Copilot, which can help it access pages that require a login.

That convenience can raise privacy concerns because it involves sharing more personal data with Microsoft. Some users previously flagged cases where Copilot features processed sensitive content without clear consent, and Microsoft says it addressed that issue with a data loss prevention update.

Chat history keeps the sources you used

Copilot saves webpages you open alongside the chat history. That setup lets you return later and review the same sources in the same thread.

Microsoft is rolling out the feature to Windows Insider testers running Copilot version 146.0.3856.39 or newer. Microsoft has not shared a public release date yet, but the company expects broader availability later.
