After resdesigning Copilot Notebooks, Microsoft appears to be gearing up to update the Copilot mobile app. And this time, the focus seems on simplifying how users interact with the AI assistant.

Microsoft is ready to push a chat-first Copilot experience on mobile

According to a new entry (ID 559310) on the official Microsoft 365 Roadmap, first spotted by Windows Report, the company has detailed what it calls “refreshed chat-first design” for the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app.

In the roadmap entry, the company notes, “This update includes a modernized design language, streamlined navigation, and other improvements that make it easier and faster for users to start, continue, and manage chats on the mobile app.”

Although it sounds like a much more of a redesign thing, Microsoft is trying to implement the idea of chat becoming the primary way users interact with productivity AI tools. Rather than simply jumping between features, users will likely rely more on a central chat interface to manage tasks, documents, and workflows.

The update, which is scheduled to rollout sometime in April, will be up for Copilot app users on both Android and iOS. As of now, Microsoft hasn’t shared a precise timeline beyond the April rollout window, but the update is marked for general availability.

Let’s not forget that Copilot Notebooks is also scheduled to get a few updates next month. You’ll be soon be able to use Copilot Notebooks to create Word document and PowerPoint presentations.
