Microsoft Copilot OneDrive

Soon, thanks to a new capability Microsoft calls Catch up with Copilot, you’ll be able to have Copilot tell you details about any new folders or files in your OneDrive account. This new capability will not only provide you with summarizations but also tell you if there are new changes to files you’ve been active in and show you quick snippets of new files shared with you.

However, according to the recent entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, this feature will only be available in OneDrive Web, and users will need to have a Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 license to use it. Catching up with Copilot in OneDrive will only work for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files for now.

Here’s what the entry says:

With Copilot, you will be able to catch up on important updates such as a summary of new “at” mentions that need your attention, new changes made to files you’ve been active in, and quick snippets of new files shared with you. Catch up will be available in OneDrive Web for our commercial customers and requires a Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 license. Catch up will initially work for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

At the same time, we exclusively reported that Microsoft Teams will have Copilot summarize content shared in presentations during Teams calls. However, it seems the AI model will soon be able to do something similar in OneDrive. Another entry to the Roadmap reveals that OneDrive users will be able to ask Copilot questions on meeting recordings.

You can open the recorded meeting in OneDrive and use Copilot to recap the conference and highlight important topics and parts. You can even tell it to show you the parts you mentioned. Similar to Intelligent Recap, it will recommend a plan of action based on the topics discussed in the meeting.

Like the other capability, this one will require a Microsoft 365 license and will be available to OneDrive Web only.
