Discord Now Lets You Avoid Spoilers, Thanks to a New Channel Type
Dodging spoilers on Discord might finally become a lot easier. Whether it’s a blockbuster movie ending, a shocking anime twist, or the final boss in a newly released game, Discord is introducing a new way for communities to keep those conversations tucked away until members decide they’re ready to see them.
Discord introduces Spoiler Channels with opt-in viewing
Discord has officially launched Spoiler Channels, a new server feature designed to hide sensitive discussions behind a consent screen. Instead of stumbling into spoiler-filled conversations, members will now see a notice explaining that the channel contains hidden content and can choose whether they want to enter.
The feature works across text channels, voice channels, forum channels, and announcement channels. Once enabled, the channel remains hidden until a user explicitly chooses to reveal it. After opting in once, Discord remembers the choice and won’t show the warning again for that channel.
Unlike age-restricted channels, Spoiler Channels do not require age verification. They’re intended for discussions involving movie endings, game storylines, emotional topics, or other content that members may prefer to avoid without warning. Discord also reminds server owners that all content inside Spoiler Channels must still comply with the platform’s Community Guidelines.
Server owners can enable it in a few clicks
Admins can turn any supported channel into a Spoiler Channel by opening Edit Channel, navigating to the Overview section, enabling the new Spoiler Channel toggle under Content Visibility, and saving the changes.
Discord also recommends adding a descriptive channel topic because it appears in the warning prompt before members enter, giving them enough context to decide whether to continue.
The company also clarified how the feature differs from age-restricted channels. Servers sharing sexually explicit content must continue using age-restricted channels, while Spoiler Channels are meant for content that isn’t adult but still benefits from an optional viewing experience.
