EA reportedly starts layoffs across Battlefield studios months after successful Battlefield 6 launch
The gaming industry appears to be going through a rough patch lately, given that some big studios have announced layoffs in the recent past. Last month, Riot Games laid off nearly 80 developers from the 2XKO team. Meanwhile, in the same month, Ubisoft announced job cuts in its Toronto studio. Now, EA has reportedly started laying off staff across several studios working on the Battlefield franchise, just months after the blockbuster launch of Battlefield 6.
EA cuts jobs across Battlefield studios after Battlefield 6 success
According to a report by IGN, the restructuring effort comes as the company continues live-service support for the title while restructuring internal teams. Employees at multiple Battlefield studios, including Electronic Arts teams such as DICE, Criterion Games, Ripple Effect Studios, and Motive Studio, have been impacted by layoffs. The exact number of affected employees has not been disclosed in the report.
In a statement to IGN, an EA spokesperson has said, “We’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community. Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we’re continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs.”
The company, meanwhile, has also reassured that all four studios remain operational and will continue supporting the franchise. The layoffs come at a time when Battlefield 6 became the best-selling game in the United States in 2025 and proved to be the biggest launch in the franchise’s history. To catch you up, the title reportedly sold more than seven million copies within its first three days.
That early momentum, however, appears to have slowed in the months since release. Reviews on Steam have also slipped from “Mostly Positive” at launch to a “Mixed” rating as criticism grew. The layoffs also arrive during a turbulent period for the franchise. Battlefield leader Vince Zampella passed away in December in a tragic car crash. Meanwhile, EA is reportedly also preparing for a major acquisition deal involving investors, including the Public Investment Fund. That being said, EA has reportedly clarified that the layoffs are not related to the acquisition.
