Edge Update Finally Resolves 100% CPU Usage Issue on Mac
Microsoft continues to iterate on Edge, rolling out frequent updates that address security issues and introduce new features, such as options to hide Copilot. The latest Edge Stable release now tackles a major performance problem affecting macOS users.
Edge Stable 144.0.3719.115 targets macOS performance bug
As reported by Neowin, Microsoft has released Edge Stable version 144.0.3719.115. This update fixes a macOS bug that caused Edge to hit 100 percent CPU usage, fully saturating a single core during normal browsing sessions.
Users reported overheating, aggressive fan spin-ups, and overall performance slowdowns. The issue appeared most clearly on systems running Apple Silicon, where efficiency and thermal behavior matter most.
Reports from users prompted a confirmed fix
The bug surfaced across Microsoft support forums and Reddit, suggesting a widespread impact. A forum user named WCR first drew attention to the problem, noting extreme CPU usage on an M4-based 16-inch MacBook. Another Reddit user, Pale-Profile1570, detected the issue during testing nearly two months earlier, before it reached the Stable channel.
Microsoft acknowledged the problem directly in the changelog, stating that it fixed a macOS issue that caused Edge to fully saturate one CPU core under certain conditions. The confirmation reassured users who had struggled with persistent thermal and performance issues.
While this release focuses on bug fixes rather than new features, it brings meaningful relief to macOS users affected by excessive CPU load. At the same time, Microsoft continues to promote Edge more aggressively, including the addition of a new button that encourages users to set Edge as their default browser.
