Microsoft Edge now puts a "make me default" button where you can’t miss it
Default-browser prompt moves to Edge’s three-dot menu.
Microsoft Edge now shows a “Set Edge as your default browser” option directly inside the three-dot menu. The option appears at the top of the menu and stays visible whenever users open it during normal browsing.
Edge brings its default‑browser prompt into the three‑dot menu
Recently, we reported that Microsoft changed the prompts shown on Chrome’s download page in Edge. The company continues to focus on getting users to keep Edge as the default browser on Windows.
Until now, Edge relied mostly on banners and Settings pages to promote itself as the default browser. The prompt is now added to the three-dot menu, one of the most used areas in the browser, for common actions such as clearing history, adjusting zoom, or managing extensions.
For example, open the menu to clear browsing history or manage extensions, and the first option you see is the default-browser prompt. The prompt is visible in newer Edge builds and may not appear for all users yet.

Google Chrome has long shown default-browser prompts inside its own UI. Edge now displays the prompt in the menu as well. Because the option appears inside the menu, users do not need to open Settings or a new tab to see it.
Microsoft Edge comes as the default browser on Windows, but many users switch to Chrome as their primary browser. Recently, we reported that Google has started alerting Windows users after they change Chrome from the default browser.
Microsoft is also keen on promoting Edge and wants to win users back, in familiar browser battles between Microsoft, Google, and Mozilla as each tries to retain users and attract others to switch.
That’s not all. Microsoft is retiring Collections in Edge and adding Copilot Actions to Immersive Reader mode.
