Microsoft edge steals chrome tabs

After much furore about Edge stealing Chrome tabs, Microsoft finally released a fix in version 121.0.2277.128 on February 15, 2024.

We previously reported how Edge opens all Chrome tabs when you boot the PC. The issue has been present for the last few months, though not everyone was affected. Many pointed it out in Microsoft forums as well as Reddit.

Now, while releasing the fix in Edge version 121.0.2277.128, Microsoft has clarified that the Import browser data setting’s state might not have been syncing across devices, and, as a result, it opened tabs from other browsers.

To download the patch, open Microsoft Edge > click the ellipsis near the top right > select Settings > go to About Microsoft Edge > wait for the browser to install the latest version.

Updating Microsoft Edge

While Microsoft called it a problem with the browser, many believe that it was one of Microsoft’s tactics to get users to switch to Edge because, at present, it is way behind Chrome. As per Statcounter, Chrome commands 64.38% of the market, while Edge stands at 5.35%.

Whatever the case, this is done and dusted. The fix is out, and Microsoft Edge will no longer take up your Chrome tabs without explicit permissions on any device!

If you are still facing the problem after updating Edge, let us know in the comments section.
