Fable Reportedly Faces Another Delay, Could Be Pushed to 2027 If It Clashes With GTA 6

The game has already been "pushed" internally

Playground Games’ long-awaited Fable may not release at a time it has been expected, with fresh rumor hinting that another delay could be on the table. To catch you up, Fable locked in a Fall 2026 release at the January Xbox Developer Direct, where Forza Horizon 6 was also confirmed.

Fable release likely to get delayed… again

According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Fable may have already been internally delayed, though the situation is still fluid. Here it is worth noting that nothing is confirmed yet, and the delay may not necessarily push the game into 2027.

That said, timing appears to be the real issue here. As mentioned earlier, Fable is currently expected to launch in Fall 2026, but that window puts it close to GTA 6, which is targeting November 19 release.

That creates a problem most studios try to avoid. Rockstar releases tend to dominate attention and sales, often overshadowing nearly everything else in the market. Launching close to GTA 6 could significantly impact Fable’s performance, even if the game itself is strong. Speaking of which, a report from earlier this year also hinted that Microsoft is considering to release Halo and other big games ahead of GTA 6 release schedule.

For Fable, one possible workaround is a short delay into late 2026. However, if development needs more time or if publishers want more distance from GTA 6, a move into 2027 becomes more likely.

Not to forget, Fable has already seen a long road. First announced in 2020, it took years to show gameplay, and delays have followed since. Another shift would extend that wait even further. As things stand, the release window remains unchanged on paper, but the pressure around it is clearly building, thanks to GTA 6.
