While the first preference enables mica for the tab bar, the second brings the visual change to Context menus in Firefox on Windows 11. So after, Chrome and Edge, Firefox also offers visually rich experiences with acrylic effects on Windows.

When the mica effect is applied to context menus, you can see the wallpaper on the New tab page or page background through it.

This feature is still in its early stages, so for now, you’ll need to adjust your hidden preferences to try out Firefox with Mica on Windows 11. In the future, this may become an automatic feature so you don’t have to dig into about:config.

Whether it’s Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox, they all aim to make their user interfaces consistent with the operating system, be it macOS, Windows, or Linux. It’s great to see Mozilla ensuring that Firefox follows all Windows 11 aesthetics.

That’s not all. Mozilla continues to expand AI usage in Firefox. After introducing PDF alt text generation, it is now testing the grouping of similar tabs using Generative AI. Mozilla will soon bring Vertical Tabs and new Profiles, making it easier to create and switch between different profiles.
