Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta Is Ready to Preload

The Gears of War: E-Day open beta can now be downloaded ahead of its public launch later this week, as TrueAchievements reports. Players on XBOX and PC can preload the roughly 80GB beta now and avoid a lengthy download when servers go live.

The Gears of War: E-Day open beta opens to all eligible XBOX and Steam users on August 13, 2026. Players do not need to purchase the full game to participate.

The free test period will remain available until August 17.

Gears of War: E-Day beta includes Horde Siege and PvP

The public beta will give players access to several parts of the game’s multiplayer experience.

The biggest addition is Horde Siege, a PvE mode where players work together against waves of enemies. Several competitive PvP Versus modes will also be available during the test.

Microsoft and The Coalition can use the open beta to test servers, matchmaking, balance, and other multiplayer systems before the full game arrives.

How to download the Gears of War: E-Day open beta

XBOX Series X|S players can find the beta through the XBOX Store. PC users can also download it through the XBOX PC app.

Steam players need to visit the Gears of War: E-Day Steam page and select the “Join the Playtest” option.

With the download sitting at around 80GB, preloading could save players considerable time once the beta officially starts.

Gears of War: E-Day launches in October

Gears of War: E-Day is currently scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026. The August beta gives players their first broad opportunity to test multiplayer roughly two months before release.

Earlier beta access was not completely smooth, with players reporting several Gears of War: E-Day beta errors. The upcoming public test should show whether Microsoft and The Coalition have addressed the most common problems.

Microsoft also appears to have more Gears hardware planned, with reports suggesting a special Gears of War: E-Day XBOX controller could launch alongside the game.
