Windows 10 has received its fair share of success after launching in July last year, and is running on over 200 million devices across the globe. The company is offering the new operating system free of cost for the a year for existing Windows 7 and 8.1 users, and even makes it easier for home users to upgrade it through the Get Windows 10 app.

The company has now announced that it will make it a little easier for small businesses and organizations to make a jump to Windows 10 through the “Get Windows 10” app which will hit their devices soon. The app give users the ability to check if their PC is compatible with the new operating system, and if it is, it later notifies when the upgrade is ready to install.

The company said the “Get Windows 10” app will soon hit the devices of small businesses and organizations, offering them an easy way with step-by-step instructions on how to get the latest operating system up and running. The roll out will start with the United States later this month followed by other global markets later on.

However, it’s worth mentioning that there are a few conditions before you can get the new operating system on your devices. Microsoft says:

  • Running and licensed for Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro
  • Configured to receive updates directly from the Windows Update service (i.e. updates are not managed by WSUS or System Center Configuration Manager on those devices)
  • Joined to an Active Directory domain

As for organizations who want to opt out of the Get Windows 10 app, and install the new operating system manually, they are covered as well. The company has posted details on how to prevent the “Get Windows 10” app on employees PCs on their support site, which you should check out if you’re an IT administrator and want to manage everything yourself.

The company also confirmed that large organizations won’t have access to Get Windows 10 app on their employees PCs running the Enterprise edition, or those who want to manage their own updates with their own tools.
