GitHub Mobile Now Allows Developers Create Repositories On the Go

GitHub Mobile just made it easier to create new repositories without jumping through extra steps. The update feels built for speed, especially when you’re away from a laptop. You can now create repositories directly inside the GitHub Mobile app. The process works on both iOS and Android, with slightly different navigation.

New repo creation goes fully mobile

On iOS, users can open Home or Profile, tap the plus button, and choose “Create repository.” On Android, the option sits inside Home or the Repositories section in Profile.

From there, setup stays straightforward. You pick your account, name the repository, choose visibility, and add a short description if needed.

You can further decide whether to use a template or start fresh. With a template, setup options are limited to branch selection. Without one, you can add a README, .gitignore, and license before finishing.

Once created, the repository opens instantly so you can start working right away. It removes the need to switch devices just to set up a project.

At a time when developers are constantly moving between devices, this update makes it easier for developers to kick off side projects and quick fixes right from mobile.

In related company news, GitHub recently also patched a severe RCE flaw affecting enterprise servers recently. Also, it’s worth noting that Microsoft has shifted GitHub Copilot to token-based pricing.

Are you a developer? If yes, will you be using GitHub Mobile to create new repositories? Let us know in the comments below.
