Google Photos Tests TikTok-Style AI Video Feed on Android
While Google is busy expanding Gemini Personal Intelligence inside AI Search, the company is also experimenting with new features designed to improve the Google Photos experience.
According to Android Authority, Google is testing an AI-powered video discovery feed inside Google Photos that looks and behaves a lot like TikTok or Instagram Reels.
The feature has appeared in version 7.60 of the Google Photos Android app and is currently limited to internal testing. It is not yet rolling out widely to users.
Google Photos experiments with AI-curated video discovery
When users open a video inside the app, a new “Related videos” button can appear. Tapping it takes them to an Explore-style page filled with vertically scrolling video clips.
The videos shown in this feed are grouped using AI, which analyzes content and attempts to surface clips with similar themes, subjects, or visual elements. Users can swipe vertically to move between videos, creating a familiar short-form browsing experience.
Under each video, Google displays quick actions to save the clip to Favorites, share it, or open a three-dot menu with additional details about the file.
The Explore page also includes a “View day” option, allowing users to jump directly to all photos and videos captured on a specific calendar date.
Because the feature remains in testing, the AI grouping does not always feel accurate. Some videos shown as “related” may only share loose or unclear connections, suggesting Google still fine-tunes the underlying models.
Outside of Photos, Google recently added an Answer Now button to Gemini, aimed at delivering faster AI responses across supported experiences.
If short-form video continues to catch your attention, it may soon look very different elsewhere, too, as TikTok moves toward majority ownership by U.S.-based companies.
