GTA 6 Was Built Without Generative AI, Take-Two CEO Confirm
GTA 6 team concerns about AI have circulated for months, but new comments from Take-Two Interactive now clarify the studio’s stance.
Take-Two says GTA 6 does not use generative AI assets
In an interview with Gameindustry.biz, Strauss Zelnick confirmed that generative AI played no role in the development of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Zelnick stressed that Rockstar Games builds its worlds entirely by hand, not through procedural or generative systems. He described GTA 6 as being crafted “building by building, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood,” and framed this approach as a key creative advantage.
According to Zelnick, generative AI cannot independently create great entertainment properties. His remarks suggest that Take-Two remains cautious about placing AI-generated content directly into flagship games like GTA 6.
Take-Two still embraces AI behind the scenes
Despite rejecting generative AI for GTA 6’s content, Zelnick made it clear that Take-Two supports AI more broadly. He said the company has relied on machine learning and AI systems for years across multiple studios.
Zelnick revealed that Take-Two currently runs hundreds of AI pilots and implementations. These tools already improve efficiency in certain production workflows, helping teams save time and reduce costs without replacing creative decision-making.
Outside the AI discussion, Take-Two has once again reaffirmed the release window for GTA 6. The company also confirmed that its marketing campaign will kick off this summer.
With The Game Awards 2026 date now set, GTA 6 could qualify for Game of the Year consideration if the launch stays on schedule.
