1. Disable the Enhance your security on the web option
- Launch Edge, click the three-horizontal icon, and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Go to Privacy, search and services, then locate the Security section.
- Navigate to Enhance your security on the web option and turn it off.
2. Update the browser
- Launch Edge, click the three-horizontal icon, and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Select About Microsoft Edge.
- If an update is available, it will be downloaded and installed.
3. Disable extensions
- Launch Edge, click the three-horizontal icon, and select Extensions from the drop-down menu.
- Now, from the pop-up menu, choose Manage Extensions.

5. Remove Microsoft Edge user data
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data and click OK.
- Locate the Default folder from the window, it could be Profile 1 and name it Profile1.old.
- Now launch Microsoft Edge. It will start in a blank profile, and previous data will be in Profile1.old folder.
6. Repair the browser
- Press Windows + I to open the Windows Settings app.
- Go to Apps, then choose Installed apps.
- Click the three-dot icon and select Modify.
- On the Repair Microsoft Edge pop-up, click the Repair button.
7. Reset the Edge settings
- Launch Edge, click the three-horizontal icon, and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- From the left pane, click Reset settings.
- Click the Restore settings to their default values.
- Restart your PC to save the changes.
8. Reinstall Edge
- Press Windows + E to open the Windows File Explorer.
- Go to this path, don’t forget to replace the system drive letter with C:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\
- Locate the folder corresponding to the current Edge version number, go to the Installer folder, and locate setup.exe.
- Press Shift and right-click to open the context menu. Choose PowerShell.
- Copy & paste the following command to Uninstall Edge and hit Enter:
.\setup.exe --uninstall--system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
- Go to Microsoft Edge’s official website and click Download.
- Once downloaded, double-click the launcher file and follow the steps to install the browser again.
