Intel Nova Lake Linux Drivers Confirm Xe3p Graphics Architecture
After leaked Intel Core Ultra 7 356H benchmarks and the rollout of XeSS 3 on Arc GPUs, Intel has now revealed more concrete details through upstream Linux development. According to VideoCardz, Intel has started upstream Linux driver work for Nova Lake-P, confirming the platform uses Xe3p_LPG for graphics.
Nova Lake adopts Xe3p graphics on Linux
The new Linux patches identify Nova Lake-P (NVL-P) as a client platform built from three distinct IP blocks. Xe3p_LPG handles graphics, Xe3p_LPM covers media, and Xe3p_LPD manages display output. Media and display support already existed in the driver, but the latest patch series adds full graphics enablement and completes NVL-P platform integration.
Intel also confirmed that not every Nova Lake chip will use the same GPU configuration. The company plans multiple iGPU variants across the lineup, which mirrors its recent strategy of segmenting graphics capabilities by product tier.
How Nova Lake fits Intel’s iGPU roadmap
The Linux changes line up with Intel’s recent integrated graphics cadence. Xe2 debuted with Lunar Lake, closing much of the gap to AMD’s RDNA 3.5–based Radeon 800M. Panther Lake is expected to move to Xe3, while Nova Lake follows with public Linux enablement tied to Xe3p.
Phoronix notes that the patches introduce nine PCI device IDs for Nova Lake-P graphics. Some of these IDs may never appear in retail hardware, as early enablement often includes placeholders or engineering samples.
At this stage, Xe3p_LPG appears to carry over the Xe2 feature set, with additional capabilities planned for later updates. Intel has not yet confirmed whether Nova Lake will launch first in laptops, desktops, or both, but the Intel Core Ultra 400 series, codenamed Nova Lake, is expected later this year.
Intel has also clarified that Arc branding restrictions may apply based on memory configuration, though this will not affect performance. In real-world terms, tests show that Arc iGPU gaming performance is comparable to an Xbox Series S in demanding titles like Alan Wake 2.
