Microsoft 365 Copilot Will Get Corporate Logos and AI Watermarks

copilot watermarking

Microsoft recently fixed an issue where Microsoft 365 Copilot could summarize confidential emails. Now, the company is moving further to prevent similar risks by introducing new data loss prevention-related safeguards and additional admin features.

According to Neowin, Microsoft is rolling out two new administrative controls for Microsoft 365 Copilot, focused on branding and AI content transparency.

Microsoft adds corporate branding to Copilot

Microsoft will allow administrators to add a corporate logo to the Copilot app footer starting in late March. The goal is simple: help employees instantly recognize that they are using an official, organization-managed Copilot environment.

The feature relies on the existing organization theme configuration in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. At launch, only the logo will appear in the footer, without support for custom colors or full interface theming.

This visual cue could help reduce phishing risks, especially as fake AI tools and cloned enterprise portals become more common. By clearly identifying a secure work environment, companies can lower the chance of employees entering sensitive data into unauthorized platforms.

Mandatory watermarking for AI-generated media

Microsoft has also updated its timeline for mandatory watermarking policies tied to AI-generated content.

Visual and audio watermarking for AI-altered content will arrive in the Cloud Policy service by mid-March. Administrators must manually enable the watermarking policy for it to take effect.

Once activated, watermarks will apply to AI-generated or AI-modified multimedia content. This includes videos created in Clipchamp and audio overviews generated from Word documents.

Static image watermarking rolled out separately in late February. However, image watermarking currently works as a user-level setting, while video and audio watermarking operate under tenant-wide policies.

The move aligns with growing compliance demands around synthetic media transparency. Enterprises increasingly need clear labeling of AI-generated content to meet regulatory, ethical, and internal governance standards.

In other news, Microsoft has started rolling out an auto summary feature for Copilot Notebook. The new capability aims to streamline content review and improve productivity by automatically generating concise overviews of notebook material.

With branding controls, watermarking policies, and new productivity features, Microsoft continues to expand Copilot’s enterprise footprint while tightening oversight and transparency controls.
