Microsoft Acquires Osmos to Boost Autonomous Data Engineering in Fabric

Microsoft has announced the acquisition of Osmos, which is an agentic AI data engineering platform built to simplify complex, time-consuming data workflows. The decision comes as the Redmond giant looks to accelerate Microsoft Fabric’s vision of a unified, AI-ready data platform.

As you may know, data is everywhere, but turning it into actionable insights remains a challenge. Teams often spend more time preparing data than analyzing it. Osmos solves this by applying agentic AI to transform raw data into analytics-ready and AI-ready assets within OneLake, the central data lake powering Fabric.

This acquisition represents a step toward a future where autonomous AI agents work alongside humans. Microsoft says that the goal is to reduce operational overhead and make it easier for organizations to connect, prepare, analyze, and share data.

The Osmos team will join Microsoft’s Fabric engineering group, contributing to the development of simpler, more intuitive AI-powered experiences. With Osmos integrated, customers can unlock value from their data faster, while keeping operations secure and streamlined.

“Data is everywhere, but making it actionable is often manual, slow, and expensive,” Microsoft says. With this platform, AI can handle repetitive tasks, letting teams focus on insight and analysis. The company has further noted that updates on how Osmos will be integrated into Fabric will be shared in the coming months.
