Microsoft Drops Send to Kindle in Word, Points Users to Amazon’s Send to Kindle Website

send to kindle word retired

Microsoft has started retiring the Send to Kindle feature in Word, ending a short-lived integration that launched only three years ago. The phase-out begins today and will complete for all users by March 9, according to reporting from Neowin.

Microsoft removes Send to Kindle from Word

The Send to Kindle option will stop working across Word on Windows, Word on macOS, and Word for the web. Microsoft decided to remove the feature because it duplicated functionality already offered by Amazon through its own Kindle services, offering little long-term value inside Microsoft Word.

Depending on rollout timing, some users may still see the feature working temporarily, but Microsoft plans a full shutdown by March 9. The company does not require any action from organizations or IT administrators during this transition.

Amazon’s Send to Kindle service remains available

Even after removal from Microsoft Word, users can continue sending documents through Amazon’s Send to Kindle website. The browser-based tool lets users upload files via drag and drop while signed into an Amazon account and supports a wide range of document formats.

Microsoft recommends that organizations notify users about the change and update any internal guides or workflows that reference Send to Kindle inside Word.

The retirement follows other recent product changes across Microsoft’s ecosystem. The company recently pulled Microsoft Lens from app stores, while also rolling out accessibility improvements such as smarter arrow-key navigation for screen reader users in Word.
