Microsoft finally fixes confusing Windows Firewall errors with KB5062660 update
The lingering issue is finally fixed
Some Windows 11 users have been seeing strange firewall errors pop up after every reboot. Now, that’s been finally fixed with the KB5062660 preview update from yesterday (via Bleeping Computer). If you install it, those repetitive warnings should stop.
Everyone else will get the fix next month during the August Patch Tuesday rollout. Earlier this month, Microsoft told IT admins to ignore the alerts entirely and that the firewall was working fine.
Apparently, the problem stems from a new feature that was in development and wasn’t fully tied into the system yet. The issue showed up in systems running the June 2025 preview update for Windows 11 version 24H2.
After restarting, users would find repeated entries in the Event Viewer from Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Each one flagged a failure to read the config and displayed a message that simply said “More data is available.”
That’s not all; the logs kept showing up every time the PC restarted. And for users scanning their Event Viewer, it looked like something was broken. Things got confusing on July 8, when Microsoft accidentally marked the issue as resolved. But, that wasn’t the case. They pulled the status shortly after and said a fix would be coming soon.
