In November, last year, Microsoft banned many PCs running Ubisoft games from updating to Windows 11 24H2, because the new version was causing freezes and crashes on many titles from the developer.
Ubisoft recently released patches for Assassin’s Creed Origins and Valhalla and determined Microsoft to lift the ban for PCs running the Ubisoft titles.
In Microsoft’s 24H2 resolved issues document, the software giant also includes Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to the list of games that should work with Windows 24H2. Ubisoft didn’t mention a patch for that game, and gamers still complain on the official Reddit thread about problems running it on Windows 11 24H2.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla are no longer affected by this issue due to fixes deployed by Ubisoft. These updates have resolved the compatibility issues with Windows 11, version 24H2, ensuring that players can now enjoy these games without previous disruptions. The safeguard hold (ID 54437462) that was previously in place has been lifted as of 1/16/2025 to exclude these games. Source: Microsoft
Microsoft recommends updating your OS from the Settings > Windows Update menu. If you still can’t find the 24H2 update, restart your system to speed up the process.
Although many fans of the Assassin’s Creed series can rejoice, we remind gamers that there is still a ban concerning the Auto HDR feature in Windows 11 24H2. Microsoft announced that they fixed this problem in a recent Windows 11 update for insiders, but we’re still waiting for a solution in the general availability channel.
However, there is a workaround for this problem. Just disable the Auto HDR feature and the 24H2 update should pop up. However, if you enable it afterward, it might not work properly, causing graphics issues, crashes, and freezes in games.
If you still have problems running any of the Assassin’s Creed games, Microsoft recommends contacting Ubisoft’s support service for the particular title. You can still write us a note in the comments below.
