Microsoft Releases Dynamic Updates KB5074108, KB5074208, and KB5073454
Microsoft has released a new batch of Windows 10 and Windows 11 setup and recovery updates alongside Patch Tuesday, according to Neowin. These updates focus on behind-the-scenes system components rather than user-facing features.
The updates target Windows setup binaries and the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Microsoft designed them as Dynamic Updates to improve pre-boot recovery, feature upgrades, system resets, and repair scenarios.
Microsoft targets Windows setup and Safe OS components
Among the releases, KB5074108 delivers a Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, refreshing WinRE and related Safe OS components. KB5073454 provides the same type of update for Windows 11 version 23H2.
Microsoft also published Setup Dynamic Updates. KB5074208 updates setup binaries and appraiser components for Windows 11 23H2, while KB5074207 improves setup files used during feature updates for Windows 10 versions 21H2 and 22H2.
WinRE updates roll out across multiple Windows versions
Several updates focus entirely on recovery improvements. KB5075039 updates the Windows Recovery Environment on active systems and requires at least 250 MB of free space in the recovery partition. KB5073933 enhances WinRE for Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2, while KB5073932 targets Windows 10 1809 and Windows Server 2019. KB5073931 delivers similar improvements for Windows 10 1607 and Windows Server 2016.
Microsoft replaces older Safe OS and Setup Dynamic Updates with these packages to keep recovery and setup tools compatible with newer firmware and platform changes.
The company distributes these updates automatically through Windows Update, the Microsoft Update Catalog, and WSUS. IT administrators can also inject them into offline images for enterprise deployments.
Microsoft has stayed busy beyond these releases. The company recently shipped emergency updates that address shutdown problems and Azure Virtual Desktop issues. On the feature update side, KB5074157 has also landed in the Beta channel, continuing Microsoft’s steady cadence of platform refinements.
