windows 11 24h2 force update

Microsoft has started to force update users to Windows 11 version 24H2. The Redmond-based tech giant has reached a new phase in the Windows 11 version 24H2 rollout, initially released on October 1, 2024.

In a message published in its official documentation, the company announced that it’s now ready to start updating more users to the latest version of Windows 11 whether they like it or not.

Here’s more from the announcement:

We have reached a new stage in the phased rollout of version 24H2. Eligible devices running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, versions 23H3 [sic] and 22H2 will be gradually updated to version 24H2. This automatic update targets only devices that are not managed by IT departments. Users can choose the time to restart their device or postpone the update. If you don’t want to wait for the automatic update, check if the update is available to you.

Microsoft says the change doesn’t apply to Copilot+ PCs with Windows 11 version 24H2 out of the box. As is common with these rollouts, Microsoft will announce the expansion of the upgrade to more users, and potentially the general public, later.

While Windows 11 version 24H2 has many issues, devices affected by those bugs won’t be auto-upgraded to it. If you’re unwilling to wait for Microsoft to sort out the issues, you can install Windows 11 version 24H2 manually.

But now, if you’re using Windows 11 version 23H2 or 22H2, you’ll see the ability to update to version 24H2 in Windows Update. If you don’t have that option, it could be that your device isn’t yet compatible with version 24H2.

Microsoft also said that it’s working to bring new features like Recall, which surfaces “forgotten” images, and Click to Do, a feature that lets you create task lists from highlighted text to more users in the future. For now, though, those features will remain exclusive to Windows Insiders.

Do you think it’s wise for Microsoft to force update Windows 11 users to the 24H2 version?
