Monster Hunter Wilds PC Runs Better With DLC Installed, Players Report

Capcom has focused attention on showcasing gameplay for Resident Evil Requiem, but another major release has sparked fresh debate in the PC gaming community.

PC players report massive frame rate gains with DLC installed

According to Video Game Chronicle, players have discovered that Monster Hunter Wilds appears to run significantly better on PC when more downloadable content is installed.

A Reddit user tested two accounts on the same PC with identical settings. One account ran only the base game, while the other included all available DLC. The base-game account dropped to around 20–25 fps in hub areas, while the DLC-complete account exceeded 80 fps under the same conditions.

DLC ownership checks may explain Monster Hunter Wilds PC issues

The tester believes the game repeatedly checks DLC ownership during gameplay. When no DLC exists, those checks continue and hurt performance. After the game detects all DLC, the checks stop, which boosts frame rates.

To validate the theory, the user built a small mod that makes the game think all DLC is installed. The mod reportedly improved performance without purchasing DLC, especially in busy player hubs where background checks likely occur more often.

These findings matter because Monster Hunter Wilds has faced PC performance criticism since launch. So far, Capcom has not confirmed whether this behavior results from a bug or deliberate design.

In other gaming news, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has received a new update, while New World has announced a shutdown.
