Animal Crossing: New Horizons First Update Of 2026 Rolls Out Early
Nintendo is closing out the year with more than just stats. Shortly after publishing Nintendo Year in Review 2025, the company rolled out a surprise content drop for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Animal Crossing Update 3.0 is Here
According to Nintendo Everything, the version 3.0.0 update is now available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing every previously announced feature into the game. In many regions, the patch arrived ahead of its planned January 15, 2026 release date.
One of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades focuses on crafting. Players can now craft up to 10 items at once when enough materials are available, while DIY recipes can pull required materials directly from home storage. The DIY Recipes app also adds a dedicated page for hotel-related requests and tasks assigned by Tom Nook.
The update introduces a brand-new resort hotel operated by Kapp’n’s family, letting players decorate rooms and earn Hotel Tickets. Slumber Islands expand creative freedom even further by allowing players to dream, terraform, and design separate customizable islands, either solo or with friends.
Storage limits have also increased significantly, with capacity now reaching 9,000 items and covering trees, bushes, and flowers. Resetti’s new Reset Service enables bulk cleanup of decorations with additional control options, making island redesigns faster and less tedious.
Several collaborations headline the content refresh, including classic Nintendo items and LEGO-themed furniture available through Nook Shopping. New amiibo support adds characters and themed items from The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon series. NookLink, available through the Nintendo Switch App, gains new Island Newspaper articles and expanded catalog support.
Nintendo Switch 2 users also receive a specific fix that resolves an issue where the Nook Shopping startup sound failed to play correctly on the in-game smartphone.
Beyond Animal Crossing, Nintendo continues to face pressure elsewhere. Rising RAM prices reportedly push up Nintendo Switch 2 production costs, while the company recently drew backlash over its newly revealed Joy-Con 2 color lineup.
