New Steam Controller Listed on eBay for $300+ as Limited Stock Turns into a Scalper Fest
Valve’s newly released Steam Controller has barely had time to settle before running into a familiar problem. The device sold out almost instantly after orders went live, and within minutes, resale listings on popular sites like eBay started popping up online at a bumped-up price.
Steam Controller sells out fast, resurfaces at higher prices on eBay
Yesterday, the first batch of Steam Controller reportedly went out of stock within 30 minutes. That quick sellout hints a strong early demand, but it also triggered the usual wave of scalpers moving in just as fast. On resale platforms like eBay, listings started appearing almost immediately after stock ran dry.
Prices have already climbed well above retail. In the UK, where Valve priced the controller at £85, some units have sold for over £150. In the US, the price jump is even sharper, with listings reaching over $300 compared to the original $99 price.
It’s not unusual though. High-demand hardware launches often face the same cycle, where limited stock meets aggressive resale tactics. Buyers who missed the initial window are left choosing between waiting for a restock or paying a premium.
What’s new about the latest Steam Controller?
As Valve describes, one of the standout features is the new Steam Controller Puck. It’s a small magnetic hub that doubles as both a charging dock and a low-latency wireless transmitter. The Puck offers a lightning-fast 8ms end-to-end connection and supports up to four controllers simultaneously. You can also connect via Bluetooth or USB-C if you want.
The controller itself features next-generation magnetic thumbsticks using TMR technology for smoother movement, enhanced responsiveness, and long-term durability. They include capacitive touch support, which enables motion controls and Valve’s new Grip Sense feature. It’s a capacitive touch system along the handles that activates gyro aiming when you hold the controller naturally. You can learn more about the new Steam Controller here.
