New Steam Controller Might Be Available to Order by September in the Best-Case Scenario

Just weeks after opening reservations for the new Steam Controller, the company is already warning prospective buyers that they could be waiting until 2027 to get their hands on one.

The updated timeline appears on the Steam Controller reservation page, where Valve is now assigning estimated order windows based on when users joined the queue. Depending on reservation timing, customers are being grouped into three delivery periods: by September 2026, by December 2026, or sometime in 2027.

Reservations first opened on May 8 after Valve introduced a queue system designed to manage demand and prevent stock shortages. At the time, the company confirmed that initial shipments would begin the following week but stopped short of providing a broader production roadmap. That has now changed.

Players with an active reservation can sign in to Steam and view their estimated order window directly on the Steam Controller page. Once their slot becomes available, they will still have a 72-hour window to complete the purchase before their place in line expires.

Valve has also added a notice stating that current reservations “indicate a 2027 date for shipping,” suggesting the backlog has grown significantly in a matter of weeks.
