The rumors about Xbox’s next-gen console are all over the internet. However, there seems to be a new addition to the long rumors list. Wccftech reports a new rumor that has been doing rounds online. Per the report, the Xbox Next will be a different gaming device altogether as compared to its predecessors.
Next-gen Xbox console reportedly will serve as a reference for manufacturers to make their own devices
The latest rumor about Xbox’s next-gen console comes from none other than Jez Corden from Windows Central. He says that the next-gen Xbox console will likely be a reference device with a heavy Windows slant for manufacturers making their own devices. Corden adds that it could be like the Surface Pro 11 which is a reference device for AI PCs.
If the claim turns out to be true, this would be a massive jump from previous Xbox consoles as it will be more like a PC that could run Steam games too. Corden’s Surface Pro 11 example is quite interesting since early rumors from this year hinted that the Surface team could lead Xbox Next’s development.
Not to forget, Xbox’s next-gen console reportedly will be released in multiple SKUs. One of them would be handheld which could be capable of natively running games with cloud gaming support.
As we write, there’s no major information about Xbox Next. However, multiple reports suggest that the next-gen Xbox console is in the works. And, will be an example of the largest technical leap to date.
It will be interesting to see how Microsoft pulls this off. But one thing is sure that software and storage upgrades will play a crucial role in it. All that said, no official confirmation has been received on this matter, so it is more of Corden’s opinion than any concrete evidence-based report. Therefore, we urge you to take it with a grain of salt.
