Microsoft will update OneDrive for the Web with the ability to protect PDF files with passwords. The Redmond-based tech giant announced this in a recent entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, and the capability will use a set of 2 passwords for extra security.

The User Password and the Owner Password will be required to open PDF files in OneDrive for Web. The first one is required to simply open and view the file, while the second one is used to grant permissions on printing copying or even modifying the content of the file.

Here’s what the entry says:

With this capability, OneDrive web users can protect their PDF files with User Password and Owner Password. The User Password is required to open and view a PDF file. The Owner Password is used to set permissions on a PDF file, such as grant permissions on printing, copying, or modifying the content.

The new enhancement will be available on OneDrive for Web in March.

In other news, Microsoft will also introduce a new section called People View in OneDrive that promises to make working with multiple files easier for users.
