PowerToys 0.91 is now available as part of the May 2025 update. For the uninitiated, PowerToys is Microsoft’s free app that adds advanced tools to Windows, like quick window resizing, file search, and keyboard shortcuts.
For those who know about it and have been waiting for new features, sadly, there aren’t any. Instead, the team is focusing on the new Command Palette, a fast launcher that many want as a native feature in Windows 11.
What are the changes coming with the PowerToys 0.91 update
PowerToys 0.91 is now available, and while it doesn’t add any new tools, it delivers a solid round of feature upgrades and improvements.
The PowerToys 0.91 update brings big improvements to Command Palette, Microsoft’s new launcher-style tool. You can now open URLs directly from the WebSearch extension, thanks to a new fallback command. Microsoft also added an option to use a low-level keyboard hook for the global hotkey and made search faster by auto-selecting the text box when you open the tool.
Calculator support in Command Palette just got better with the PowerToys 0.91 update. The logic from PowerToys Run v1 has been ported over, with improved fallback behavior and settings support. List item shortcuts are back, too.
The Time and Date plugin also got a cleanup—custom format support has been added, settings are more organized, and error messages are clearer. The fallback system now lets you query time or date directly without picking a specific command.
PowerToys 0.91 also improves the Registry Preview tool, allowing users to paste keys and values without writing headers. You’ll also find a reset button for quick fixes. The Color Picker now supports Oklab and Oklch color spaces for better design workflows.
Command Palette also supports nested, filterable context menus now, with a built-in search box, and lets you search any file using a fallback command.
You can check the full changelog with a huge list of improvements for Color Palette. Those who are curious can download PowerToys 0.91 from GitHub or the Microsoft Store. If the app is already installed on your system, go to Settings > General and click “Check for updates.”
