Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had a remarkable year in 2025, becoming one of the most successful AA games released during that period. The title earned widespread praise from critics and players, helping it secure hundreds of industry awards.

However, the game’s award streak appears to have paused after it failed to secure any wins at the recent Famitsu Awards.

Despite that outcome, developer Sandfall Interactive is already thinking about the future of the franchise.

Sandfall hints at the future of the franchise

According to Insider Gaming, the studio discussed the future of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 during an interview at the Game Developers Conference.

Lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen was asked about what might come next for the series. While she declined to reveal specific details, the studio confirmed that ideas for the future of the franchise already exist.

Sandfall did not confirm whether those plans involve a sequel, additional content, or other projects related to the Clair Obscur universe.

Record-breaking awards success in 2025

Although the game missed out on awards at the Famitsu event, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 previously achieved a major milestone in the industry.

The title reportedly won more than 400 Game of the Year awards across different publications and outlets.

These awards included both fan-voted and editorial selections, showing strong support from players as well as critics.

The game is frequently referenced as a standout example of what studios can accomplish with a well-managed AA development budget while still delivering a premium experience.

In separate news, CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that it currently has no plans to release additional DLC or expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, marking the end of post-launch content for the RPG.
