Sony Begins Beta Testing a Massive New UI Update for PlayStation 5

Sony is finally giving its console a needed visual overhaul. The company just started rolling out a brand new beta dashboard for the PlayStation 5, and it looks like a great upgrade. If you are tired of the current cluttered screen, this update brings a cleaner design that puts your actual games front and center.

According to Insider-Gaming, it is currently available to a small group of testers before it launches globally.

PlayStation 5 UI is adding custom backgrounds and folders

For years, players asked Sony to let them personalize their home screens. It seems the company finally listened. The leaked beta shows you can now set custom background images. You do not have to rely on default game art anymore. You can pick your favorite screenshot and pin it behind your game library.

The update also introduces a new way to organize your digital collection. You can group games into dedicated folders right on the main screen. This means you do not have to scroll past everything to find your favorite multiplayer games. It keeps the whole dashboard looking tidy and easy to navigate.

When can you expect the final release?

Right now, this testing phase is closed to the general public. Sony sent direct invites to a small number of players to try the software and find bugs. Given how the company handled past updates, this testing period will likely last for another month.

If everything goes according to plan, the final version should drop for all users later this summer. The current response from testers is highly positive. People love the cleaner layout, the faster menus, and the removal of unnecessary store ads from the main row. We will keep an eye out for a final release date soon.
