Stardew Valley Will Get New Marriage Candidates in a Major Update
Stardew Valley is preparing for a major 1.7 update, and this time the details come straight from its creator.
During an interview with IGN celebrating the game’s 10th anniversary, developer Eric Barone confirmed that the upcoming update will introduce changes to in-game children and expand the game’s romance system.
Expect two new marriage candidates in Stardew Valley 1.7
Barone revealed that Stardew Valley 1.7 will add two brand-new marriage candidates, expanding the existing roster of romanceable characters. This marks one of the most significant social updates the game has received since earlier post-launch expansions.
The identities of the two new candidates remain secret for now. Barone confirmed they will be officially revealed on the game’s anniversary, which takes place on February 26.
Children will play a bigger role
One of the longest-running community requests also made its way into the update. Barone said the 1.7 patch will make in-game children “a little more interesting,” addressing feedback that they currently feel underdeveloped.
He avoided sharing specific mechanics or changes, explaining that he wants players to experience the surprise firsthand when the update arrives.
Beyond social features, Barone hinted that the update will include additions players may not have directly asked for, but ones he believes the community will still enjoy. As with previous updates, these extras aim to deepen the overall Stardew Valley experience without disrupting its core charm.
There is still no confirmed release date for Stardew Valley 1.7. For now, players will need to wait for future announcements and teasers from Barone, who develops the game under the name ConcernedApe.
In other gaming news, discussion continues around a potential Fallout 3 Remaster, while the first wave of February Game Pass titles has officially landed.
