According to Neowin, the new firmware package introduces multiple fixes that address shutdown issues, connectivity bugs, and compatibility problems.
Surface Pro Firmware Released, Here’s What’s New
Microsoft strengthened device security by patching vulnerabilities that could trigger unexpected shutdowns or enable privilege escalation.
The company also fixed a bug that caused random shutdowns during Microsoft Teams video calls, improving reliability for business and remote users.
A separate issue affecting VPN connections has been resolved. Some users experienced sudden cellular connectivity loss when using VPN services.
Microsoft also corrected a configuration bug where cellular settings would automatically switch from eSIM to a physical SIM card, overriding user preferences.
Surface Dock 2 and Media Playback Fixes
Compatibility improvements now enhance performance when using Surface Dock 2 accessories. This should reduce connection inconsistencies and docking-related issues.
The update also resolves a Dolby Vision playback problem. Some users previously encountered a black screen paired with an unauthorized playback error when watching supported HDR content.
Firmware Update Details and Installation
The firmware package includes updated drivers alongside system-level improvements. Microsoft says users do not need to take additional steps before or after installation.
Since Surface firmware updates cannot be uninstalled, Microsoft advises backing up important data before applying the update.
