The Elder Scrolls 6 Reportedly Still Years Away, New Release Window Emerges

If you’re still hoping to step back into Tamriel anytime soon, there is some bad news for you. A new report suggests that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still several years away from release. That is disheartening for fans given that Bethesda Game Studios had shifted its primary focus to the project following Starfield’s 2023 launch.

The update comes via Reece Reilly, a YouTuber and industry insider who claims to have access to developers at Bethesda Game Studios (via ComicBook). Reilly says that Bethesda and Xbox are currently mulling over 2028 release as the earliest possible release window for The Elder Scrolls 6. However, he adds that a 2029 release is also possible. But, that depends on how the game development progresses.

The insider further highlights that 2028 should be viewed as an optimisic release window than a final target. Reilly further notes that Bethesda is deliberately avoiding even a rough release date, as doing so could backfire after the game was announced far earlier than its development warranted.

The report also raises questions about platform strategy. With next-generation PlayStation and Xbox hardware rumored to be delayed due to memory crunch, The Elder Scrolls 6 could end up as a cross-generation title, rather than a next-gen exclusive. While a next-gen-only release isn’t impossible, the current timeline makes that less likely.

As always, Bethesda hasn’t confirmed any release window, and plans could still change. For now, patience remains the only certainty for Elder Scrolls fans.
