Todd Howard has shared fresh details about the future of Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield. In a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games, covered by Wccftech, the Bethesda boss offered rare insight into the studio’s long-term roadmap.

Howard confirmed that Bethesda has “multiple” Fallout projects in development. However, he avoided sharing specifics about timelines, studios involved, or whether these include long-rumored remakes.

Fallout Remakes Still a Long Way Off as Multiple Projects Continue

Previous reports have suggested that Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remakes remain far from release. Howard’s latest comments do not contradict that outlook, meaning fans likely should not expect those projects anytime soon.

While Fallout remains active behind the scenes, Bethesda’s main development push currently lies elsewhere.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Progressing Toward Major Milestone

Howard acknowledged that announcing The Elder Scrolls 6 as early as Bethesda did may not have been ideal. He said he prefers to reveal projects closer to launch rather than during long development gaps. Development is moving forward, but The Elder Scrolls 6 still faces a long development cycle.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is now playable internally and approaching a significant milestone. Most of Bethesda Game Studios, along with partner teams, has shifted focus toward the project. Howard himself said he spends the majority of his time working on it.

Returning to Classic Bethesda RPG Roots

Howard hinted that The Elder Scrolls 6 will lean into a more traditional Bethesda RPG structure. That suggests a return to the design philosophy that defined earlier entries in the series.

The studio is also evolving its technology. After using Creation Engine 2 for Starfield, Bethesda is now upgrading to Creation Engine 3. The new engine will power The Elder Scrolls 6 and future titles.

Howard made it clear that Bethesda has no plans to adopt Unreal Engine 5 or other third-party engines.

Starfield Support Continues With Major Updates

While The Elder Scrolls 6 dominates internal resources, Bethesda is not stepping away from Starfield.

Howard teased that more news about Starfield will arrive soon. The studio is working on a substantial amount of new content, including broader, meta-style changes and new ways to use space and gameplay systems.

He clarified that these updates should not be considered a Starfield 2.0 overhaul. Instead, they aim to expand and refine the existing experience.

The changes primarily target players who already enjoy Starfield. Howard admitted that the updates may not dramatically shift the opinions of those who did not connect with the game at launch.

Bethesda also has no plans to end support after the next major update, signaling long-term commitment.

Reports suggest future announcements could align with a potential PlayStation 5 release window for Starfield, possibly around April 2026. However, no official confirmation has been provided.

For now, Bethesda’s roadmap centers heavily on The Elder Scrolls 6 while quietly developing multiple Fallout projects and continuing to expand Starfield.

With one major RPG approaching a milestone and another receiving ongoing content, Todd Howard’s studio appears firmly focused on long-term franchise growth rather than short-term reveals.
