Towerborne Goes Premium and Offline, Full Launch Set for February
Towerborne will officially leave Early Access and Xbox Game Preview with its full 1.0 launch on February 26, 2026, according to Windows Central. The action RPG will release simultaneously on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Game Pass.
The release marks a major shift in direction for the game, both in pricing and overall design philosophy.
Towerborne switches to a premium, buy-once model
At launch, Towerborne will no longer follow a free-to-play model. Instead, players will purchase the game once, with standard and deluxe editions available. The developers also dropped the always-online requirement, allowing full offline single-player gameplay while keeping optional online co-op.
This change came directly from Early Access feedback, where players pushed back against live-service mechanics and monetization. The studio responded by removing premium currency systems and focusing on a complete, self-contained experience.
Live-service features and microtransactions are removed
The premium cosmetics store and microtransactions will retire at launch. Players who purchased cosmetic items during Early Access will keep access to them in version 1.0. Founder’s Packs and Belfry Bucks will convert into Stepstones and writs, preserving value for early supporters.
Full launch brings new story content and gameplay updates
The 1.0 update delivers a complete story arc, new bosses, and a redesigned world map that introduces an additional biome. Players will also see new enemies, gear, abilities, and a Brutal difficulty mode aimed at experienced players.
The shift also confirms Towerborne as a fully multiplatform release. The game originally targeted Xbox consoles exclusively but now launches on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass.
A broader Xbox ecosystem update
The Towerborne announcement arrives as Xbox continues to expand its ecosystem. Recent reports suggest Microsoft may unveil a new Elite Series 3 controller later this year, and the Xbox Developer Showcase takes place later this month with more announcements expected
Towerborne’s transition signals a growing trend away from aggressive live-service models toward premium, player-focused releases. The February launch will show whether this approach pays off.
While you wait for the game to release, why not check the new games on Xbox Game Pass that are coming this month?
