Warner Bros. Confirms Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Is Coming

Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, marking the clearest acknowledgment yet that the hit Harry Potter game will receive a sequel.

The company confirmed the project in an August 6, 2026 letter to shareholders, according to Polygon. Hogwarts Legacy has now sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 becomes a major Warner Bros. project

Warner Bros. wants to focus its gaming investments on fewer franchises where it sees stronger growth potential.

Its main gaming properties currently include Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC. Hogwarts Legacy’s sales have made it one of the most important franchises in that strategy.

The company also expects its games division to contribute more significantly to profitability as its development pipeline grows.

Warner Bros. has discussed the sequel for years

A Hogwarts Legacy sequel has been expected for some time.

In 2024, then-Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels described a successor to Hogwarts Legacy as one of the company’s biggest priorities for the coming years.

The August 2026 shareholder letter goes further by placing the sequel directly within Warner Bros.’ development pipeline.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 has no release date yet

Warner Bros. has not announced an official title, release date, platforms, or gameplay details for Hogwarts Legacy 2.

Major gaming events such as Gamescom Opening Night Live and The Game Awards could give Warner Bros. opportunities to reveal the game, but the company has not announced any presentation plans.

Speculation has pointed to a possible 2027 or 2028 release, although Warner Bros. has not confirmed either window.

In other gaming news, the Subnautica 2 Experimental Branch is now available, while Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 has been delayed until winter.

CD Projekt has also recently carried out another round of layoffs affecting The Witcher’s Project Sirius.
