Although Windows 10 is no longer in mainstream support, Microsoft continues to deliver security patches and known issue fixes through Extended Security Updates.

Recently, the company released the KB5075912 update for Windows 10. While the update addressed routine security and stability improvements, Microsoft also acknowledged a separate issue affecting parental controls.

Parental Controls Bug Allowed Temporary Third-Party Browser Access in Windows 10

In June 2025, Microsoft confirmed a bug tied to Web Filtering under parental controls.

Web Filtering is designed to control the content children can access in Microsoft Edge. When it comes to third-party browsers such as Google Chrome or Vivaldi, the system normally requires parental consent before launch.

However, a bug caused newer versions of certain third-party browsers to appear temporarily unblocked. This behavior could allow children to access the web without intended restrictions.

Microsoft stated that the issue resulted from how newer browser versions were recognized under Web Filtering policies.

Server-Side Fix Rolling Out Automatically

Microsoft has now resolved the issue through a server-side fix. The rollout began in early February 2026 and will continue over the coming weeks.

Affected devices will receive the correction automatically. Users do not need to install a Windows update or take any additional action.

Alongside this fix, Microsoft released KB5077181 and KB5075941 as part of the latest Patch Tuesday cycle for users running the newest supported builds.

The company also issued a statement regarding expiring boot certificates, warning administrators to review their environments and apply recommended updates to avoid potential boot-related issues in the future.

Despite its aging status, Windows 10 continues to receive targeted fixes and security updates, particularly for systems enrolled in Extended Security Updates.
