Windows 10 Makes a Comeback as Windows 11 Loses Momentum

windows 11 market share down

Despite Windows 11 reaching more than one billion users faster than Windows 10, new data suggests the newer operating system has started to lose momentum.

Windows 11 growth shows signs of slowing

According to the latest Statcounter figures, Windows 11 has seen a noticeable slowdown after briefly overtaking Windows 10 in global desktop market share last year. Over the past two months of tracked usage, Windows 10 has begun gaining ground again, reversing part of Windows 11’s earlier growth.

MonthWindows 11Windows 10
October 202555.18%41.71%
November 202553.7%42.7%
December 2025~50.7%~44.6%

This trend isn’t entirely surprising. We previously reported that Windows 11 market share has been slipping, even as Microsoft continues to push upgrades through new hardware and software incentives.

Statcounter hasn’t offered an official explanation for the recent changes, and the data doesn’t come from an official Microsoft report. Even so, the numbers suggest a clear pattern: many users continue to delay the move to Windows 11.

Windows 10 officially went out of support on October 14, 2025, unless covered by Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Despite that, market share data shows a large number of users still rely on the older operating system.

Germany provides a clear example. Recent reports indicate that roughly 48% of home users continue to use Windows 10, even after support ended.

While users hesitate to upgrade, Microsoft’s overall business performance remains strong. The company recently reported a 16.7% revenue increase, showing that slower Windows 11 adoption hasn’t translated into weaker financial results.
