Windows 11 Windows XP

Windows XP, which has been long gone for several years now, still holds a special place in the hearts of many Windows users, which is why many are using it up to this day to condone all sorts of tech experiments, including running (or trying to, at least) Windows 11 on it.

Before asking how that could be possible, you should know it is by using VM (virtual machine) software designed.

The process of running Windows 11 on a Windows XP PC was screenshot by a Reddit user, who successfully used VirtualBox 5.2.44 with Certificate Updates on XP and a Windows 11 ISO. The Windows XP x64 was enhanced with two entries to the VM to bypass requirements, per the user’s words, and it worked.

The user says it might also work with a 32-bit version of Windows XP, but it will most likely require a RAM entry to bypass the 4 GB requirement to run Windows 11.

Even so, those interested can try to reenact this experiment. Don’t forget that Windows 11 is quite versatile for these experiments. For example, last year, we published a story of a Reddit user who could install Windows 11 on a 10-year-old laptop, and while the device needed to be tweaked for this to work, the whole process meant a lot of sustainability.

Which is precisely what Windows users are asking Microsoft to do. Recently, the idea of Windows 10 users needing to upgrade to Windows 11 has returned to the spotlight, and for good reason. At the end of this year, in October, Windows 10 will reach its EOS, and the operating system is still the most dominant Windows version on the market, with over 60% of users.

However, many Windows 10 users agree they would upgrade to Windows 11 if Microsoft lowered the system requirements. This way, they won’t need to change their PCs and buy a new one just for Windows 11.

Others, such as the Reddit user above, are showing Microsoft that it can be done, but ultimately, these are unofficial ways, which means they are not sustainable. But maybe these kinds of experiments will pressure the Redmond-based tech giant into lowering those specs.

What do you think?
