How to Delete Windows 11 Saved Passwords

Windows 11 has password-saving features to help you autofill your credentials and log in faster to your accounts but if you suspect a breach in security, you can delete all your saved passwords.

While it is a convenient feature, it is also an easy way for unauthorized people to access your accounts if they have your Windows PIN. You can enable password expiration or use third-party password managers with multifactor authentication for extra security.

How do I delete saved passwords on Windows 11?

1. Administrator and local user accounts

1.1 By using the Control Panel

  1. Click on the Windows Search bar, type Control Panel, and click Open.control-panel-search fallout new vegas runtime error
  2. Select User Accounts.
  3. Click on Windows Credentials.
  4. Next, select MicrosoftAccount and click on it to expand and reveal your password.
  5. Hit the Remove option and your password will be removed. Repeat these steps for all your accounts.

1.2 By using account settings

  1. Open the Start Menu by clicking the Start icon in the Taskbar.
  2. Navigate to the Settings menu.
  3. Select Accounts from the left pane, then click on Sign-in options from the menu that opened on the right.
  4. Expand the password section and select Change.
  5. Enter your current password.
  6. You’ll be asked to set up a new password. Leave the fields blank and click Next.
  7. Now click on Finish to complete the process.

1.3 By using Windows Terminal

  1. Press Windows Key + X and select Windows Terminal (Admin) from the menu.
  2. Now run the following command: net user WindowsReport *
  3. You’ll be asked to set a new password and confirm it. Don’t input anything and just press the Enter key twice.
  4. After doing that, the password for the account WindowsReport will be removed.

1.4 By modifying your registry

Modifying the registry can lead to system stability issues, so be sure to back up your registry before making any changes.
  1. Press Windows Key + R and enter regedit. Click OK.
  2. When Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following path in the left pane:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  3. Right-click the right pane and expand the New section. Select String Value. Enter DefaultUserName as the name of the new string.
  4. Now double-click the DefaultUserName string.
  5. Enter your Microsoft account email address as the Value data and click OK.
  6. Create a new string and name it DefaultPassword. Double-click the DefaultPassword to open its properties.
  7. Enter your Microsoft account password in the Value data field and click OK to save changes.
  8. Lastly, double-click the AutoAdminLogon.
  9. Set the value data to 1 and click OK to save changes.

2. BIOS password

2.1 By using the Command Prompt

  1. Press & hold the Power button on your PC until it shuts down.
  2. Next, press the Power button on your PC to turn it on.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 twice to get the Automatic Repair screen. Click Advanced options.Advanced options - automatic repair

  6. Select Command Prompt from the Advanced options screen.Command Prompt Advanced Options .
  7. If your computer can boot into Windows, press the Windows key, type cmd, and click Run as administrator.
  8. In the Command Prompt window, copy & paste the following commands one by one and hit Enter after each command:
    • debugo
      70 2Eo
      71 FF
      quit
  9. Once the commands are executed, reboot your PC to reset the BIOS password and CMOS settings.

2.2 By blocking the BIOS

  1. Boot your computer, then press F1, F2, F10, Esc, Ctrl, or Delete keys according to your device manufacturer to enter BIOS.
  2. Now, if you are prompted to enter the password, type the wrong password thrice, forcing your computer into lockdown mode. You will get a system disabled message and a code; note down that code.
  3. On another device or phone, visit bios-pw.org/, enter the code when asked, and then click Get Password.Backdoor password - How to Remove BIOS Password on Windows 11
  4. Enter this password on your blocked BIOS one and all settings will be reset.

3. Browser passwords

3.1 Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the menu button and choose Settings from the menu.
  2. In the left pane, go to the Profiles section. In most cases, it should be selected by default.
  3. Next, in the right pane locate Microsoft Wallet and choose Passwords.

  4. In the Sites and apps sections, you should see all your stored passwords.

  5. Select the desired website.
  6. Select the password you want to delete by following the steps from the previous sections.
  7. Click the Delete button.

  8. If asked, enter your PIN or password.

3.2 Google Chrome

  1. Go to the horizontal lines menu provided at the top-right corner of the Chrome toolbar.
  2. Click on Passwords and autofill>Google Password Manager.
  3. You will then see the list of saved passwords for the sites you have visited in the past.

  4. Click on the forward arrow for the password you wish to delete.
  5. A new window Windows Security will open where you need to enter your password/pin to proceed further.
  6. If you wish to delete all passwords, go to Passwords and autofill>Google Password Manager.
  7. Select Settings then click on Delete all Google Password Manager data.

As you remove all passwords from your Windows 11 device, keep in mind that you may have to wait up to 24 hours to update your password so it’s good to have another security method to gain access to your device.
