New Windows 11 Experimental (Canary) Build Improves Task Manager & More

Improvements are rolling out with Build 28020.1921

In addition to Experimental (Future Platforms) Build 29580.1000, Microsoft is also rolling out Experimental (26H1) Build 28020.1921. Notably, the changes rolled out with this build also applies to Insiders in the in the Canary 28000 series Channel.

This update brings a smaller set of improvements, while also focusing on refining the overall experience for Insiders running this build. First, Microsoft has confirmed that users in the Canary 28000 Series will begin transitioning to the new Experimental (26H1) channel. The company previously announced this, but it seems the rollout is now gradually taking place. Now, let’s jump to what’s improved.

Microsoft upgrades Task Manager and rolls out updated Feedback Hub with Build 28020.1921

As for Task Manager, Microsoft is adding deeper visibility into NPU usage on supported PCs, with new optional columns such as NPU and NPU Engine across Processes, Users, and Details pages. On top of that, the Details page now includes NPU Dedicated Memory and Shared Memory columns, offering a clearer view of how AI workloads are using system resources.

There is also a small but important addition where neural engines tied to the GPU will now show up on the Performance page. Besides that, a new Isolation column is being introduced, allowing users to identify which apps are running inside an AppContainer. That’s not all; Microsoft has also fixed inaccurate CPU speed readings for virtual machines after resuming from hibernate, which previously showed unrealistic spikes.

Speaking of improvements, the Feedback Hub is getting version 2.2604.301.0 with a series of user-driven updates. Reliability has been improved, while design, accessibility, and localization tweaks continue to roll out. Non-English users can now switch the Community section view to English, and translations for collection titles and official responses are expanding.

The update also restores the 500 MB file upload limit and improves the accuracy of upvote and comment counts. These changes may seem incremental, but they suggest Microsoft is steadily refining how feedback is collected and surfaced across regions. Not to forget, Microsoft has also rolled out the modern run dialog with Experimental (Dev) Build 26300.8346. Moreover, Beta channel Insiders are getting Build 26220.8340 with Windows Share improvements and more.
