Windows 11 KB5124010 Ships Without One of Its Announced WinRE Upgrades

Microsoft has delayed a Windows 11 WinRE Wi-Fi enhancement that was originally listed as part of the latest KB5124010 update.

Microsoft removes WinRE Wi-Fi feature from KB5124010

Microsoft has confirmed that the networking improvement for Windows Recovery Environment is not included in KB5124010.

The company has updated its KB5124010 documentation to say the feature will roll out at a future date.

That also means users should not expect it as part of the October 13 Patch Tuesday update.

WinRE will eventually use saved Windows Wi-Fi profiles

The planned enhancement will allow WinRE to automatically use saved Wi-Fi profiles from the main Windows installation.

This should make recovery easier for IT admins by reducing the need to manually configure Wi-Fi when troubleshooting systems that cannot boot normally.

Microsoft currently offers the feature only in Windows Insider builds, including Beta Preview Build 26220.9343.

Internet connectivity in WinRE can help admins access recovery, diagnostic, and repair tools when Windows itself cannot start.

KB5124010 still brings other Windows 11 changes

KB5124010 still includes several other changes, including an upgrade to Windows 11 Cloud Rebuild that adds secure drive-wiping improvements. Microsoft has also addressed File History problems, with KB5124010 and KB5124006 fixing broken File History backups.

The update has not been trouble-free, however. Some users report Battlefield 6 and Easy Anti-Cheat game crashes after installing KB5124010.
