Windows 11 Reaches 75.53% Among Windows Steam Gamers

Windows 11 has reached 75.53% among Windows Steam users, according to Valve’s August 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey.

Across all systems included in the Steam Hardware & Software Survey, Windows 11 now accounts for 70.97%, while Windows 10 has dropped to 22.90%.

Windows 10 keeps losing Steam users

Windows 11 continues to extend its lead as more PC gamers move away from Windows 10.

The decline comes as support for the older operating system continues to shrink. NVIDIA is also preparing to drop Windows 10 driver support, giving gamers another reason to consider upgrading.

Windows still dominates Steam

Windows remains by far the most popular operating system among Steam users, accounting for 93.95% of surveyed systems.

Linux holds 3.90%, while macOS has fallen to 2.14%.

16GB is now the most common VRAM configuration

The survey also shows that 16GB has become the most common amount of graphics memory among Steam users.

Systems with 16GB of VRAM account for 25.90% of surveyed configurations, narrowly ahead of 8GB at 25.32%.

RTX 3060 remains Steam’s most popular GPU

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060 remains the most widely used GPU on Steam with a 3.92% share.

The RTX 4060 Laptop GPU follows closely at 3.84%, while the newer RTX 5070 has climbed to 3.77%.

Gamers still appear to favor older and more affordable graphics cards, while RTX 50 GPU prices continue to rise beyond MSRP.

AMD continues closing the CPU gap

Intel still leads the Windows CPU market on Steam with a 54.47% share, but AMD has continued to gain ground.

AMD processors now account for 45.52% of Windows systems in the survey, leaving the two companies separated by less than nine percentage points.

Steam’s ecosystem also continues to expand beyond desktop PCs. The Steam Deck library now supports more than 30,000 titles.
