Windows 11’s July Optional Update KB5062663 Fixes ReFS, Printer Glitches, and Input Bugs
If you aren't facing any issues, skip it
Microsoft has rolled out its July optional update (KB5062663) for Windows 11 version 23H2 and 22H2, and it brings some important bug fixes. If you’ve been dealing with issues tied to file backups, PDF search errors, or broken IME input, this update might be worth installing.
Let’s start with storage. Microsoft has patched a frustrating issue where backup apps using the Resilient File System (ReFS) could choke your system’s memory when handling large files. Another file system bug that returned weird errors like “No More Files” when searching shared PDFs has been fixed, too.
Typing problems with the Microsoft Changjie IME for Traditional Chinese and phonetic keyboards for Hindi and Marathi are also fixed. These bugs caused everything from broken word selection to totally unresponsive keyboards after the previous KB5062552 update.
It’s worth noting that this optional update also fixes network-related hiccups. Devices with cellular connections were sometimes slow to reconnect peripherals after waking from sleep. That’s now fixed.
Printer names should also show up more clearly when setting up using IPP Directed Discovery. Microsoft has even addressed a rare issue that caused devices to become unresponsive after the May security patch. If you noticed missing taskbar icons tied to accessibility tools, this update also restores them.
You’ll find the KB5062663 update under Settings > Windows Update. It’s optional, so skip it if nothing on the list affects you. You can also grab it directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
