Xbox Developer Direct Could Feature a Surprise Fourth "First-Party Game"

After teasing the Xbox Developer Direct late last year, Microsoft has finally confirmed that it’s happening this month. The event will kick off on January 22, at 10 am Pacific / 1 pm Eastern / 6 pm UK.

While the company has confirmed additional details for Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and Beast of Reincarnation, the showcase is now expected to include a secret fourth game that hasn’t been announced yet. Yes, you read that right, one last surprise is reportedly still waiting to be revealed.

VGC (short for Video Games Chronicles), citing Shinobi602, reports the additional title is a ‘smaller-scale original game’ internally developed by one of Xbox Game Studios. Meaning the game in question will be a first-party drop.

While details and the name of the title remain under wraps, the game is said to be designed as a complementary reveal rather than a headline-grabbing blockbuster, which will offer something different to close out the presentation.

Microsoft appears to be using this Developer Direct to balance its 2026-heavy lineup with both major franchises and more experimental ideas. The mystery game is expected to give us an idea of what Xbox’s internal studios are working on besides the usual flagship releases.

The January 22 livestream will still focus heavily on big names. Forza Horizon 6 is confirmed to take the series to Japan and will launch on Xbox and PC before eventually expanding to PlayStation 5. Fable, the long-in-development reboot of the classic RPG, is also slated to appear at the event. However, it’s unclear when the game will release.

Meanwhile, Beast of Reincarnation will receive its first extended look. With one final surprise still waiting, the 2026 Xbox Developer Direct now feels less predictable. Microsoft is clearly aiming for that, because sometimes quiet reveals end up making the loudest impression.
