Xbox Store finally gets much-requested payment methods

Microsoft has quietly updated the Xbox Store with two new payment methods, giving players more flexibility when buying games and DLCs.

As part of the latest update, players can pay using Google Pay and Apple Pay. The move appears to streamline purchases, especially on mobile and PC. To catch you up, Microsoft recently also updated the Xbox Store with much-requested sorting options.

New payment options roll out selectively

According to folks at TrueAchievements, Apple Pay seems restricted to mobile devices. Meanwhile, Google Pay is accessible on mobile as well as PCs. Keep in mind that the availability of new payment methods varies by region.

It’s worth noting that initial testing reveals both options working in the US and UK. That said, these payment options weren’t present when the news outlet tested the Xbox Store on an Xbox Series X, suggesting the rollout is still limited.

The new methods appear as express checkout options, which allow purchases with just a few clicks. The screenshots shared by X user @IdleSloth84_ show the new payment options during the buying process, potentially saving players several steps compared to traditional payment methods.

Players welcome the update

All this time, Xbox fans have been asking for Google Pay and Apple Pay support. As of now, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed a full global rollout, leaving many players hoping the payment options will expand to more regions and devices in the near future. The update is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to make the Xbox Store more user-friendly and accessible, especially as digital game sales continue to rise.

Speaking of games, let’s not forget that Microsoft is also expanding the Xbox Ally handheld game library and releasing over 20 games across Xbox consoles and PC this week.
