If you have encountered the you have been blocked from originating messages issue, then this guide can help!  We will discuss the potential fixes to resolve the issue, along with the probable causes. Let’s start!

What causes the you have blocked from originating messages error?

There could be various reasons for this error message; some of the common ones are mentioned here:

• The recipient has blocked your number – If your number is blocked by the person on receiving end, then you might get this error. Check if the person has blocked your number intentionally or by mistake.
• Issues with phone or carrier – If you are not able to send messages to all the contacts on your device, then the issue could be your carrier or your mobile handset. Check if texting is enabled on your phone or carrier plan. For more details, contact your carrier.
• Check your profile with the carrier – If your profile with the carrier and the phone number doesn’t match the phone on the device, you might get this error message.
• Misconfigured settings – If the settings on your phone are not configured properly, then you would have problems sending messages.
• Apps interference – Sometimes Google apps could cause errors, including this message error, and prevent you from sending a text.
• Number added to Spam database – If your number is being spoofed and has been listed as spam by your carrier, you might not able to send text messages.
• Network issues – If you or the recipient are in an area with bad network coverage, then you might receive this error.

What can I do to fix the you have blocked from originating messages error?

Before engaging in troubleshooting steps, you should consider performing the following checks:

• Restart your phone.
• Turn on Airplane mode for a few seconds and turn it off.
• Ask the receiver if he or she has blocked you by mistake.
• Restart the messaging app.
• Reinsert the SIM.

1. Use different phone

If you are not able to send any messages from your phone, then chances are your phone could be the issue. Remove the SIM on your phone and insert it into any other phone to ensure that’s the case.

If your device is not the issue, then proceed to the next step.

2. Clear data and cache of the messaging app

1. On your Android phone, locate the Settings app.
2. Tap Apps.
3. On the next page, click App Management.
4. Scroll and click Messages or the message app name that you are using.
5. Tap Storage usage.
6. On the next screen, click Clear data and click OK.
7. Then tap Clear cache to remove the cache and click OK.

3. Check network settings

3.1 Enable auto network selection

1. Open Settings, and click Mobile Network.
2. Tap on the SIM you want to choose the setting for.
3. If you have a Dual SIM device, select the SIM with issues. If not, then proceed to the next step.
4. Click Carrier.
5. Now toggle on the switch for Auto select option to enable automatic selection.
6. Now toggle on switch for Auto switch data SIM.

3.2 Reset Network settings

1. Open the Settings app and go to Additional Settings.
2. Click Back up and reset.
3. Tap on Reset phone.
4. Then tap on Reset network settings.
5. Tap Reset Settings.

4. Update your phone OS

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Go to About device.
3. Scroll to find System Update.
4. Click Check for updates and if an update is available, download and install it.

5. Check the Format

Check if the carrier supports the format in which you are trying to send a message. If you are trying to send MMS, emojis or SMS, which are not supported by your carrier, then you might get this error. Try using different carriers to send the same message to ensure that’s the case. 

6. Contact your carrier

You can contact the carrier to check if your texting limit is exhausted or if your account is suspended. Also, there could be a temporary problem with the network, and they could give you information about the same.

7. Reset your phone

1. Take a backup of your device before performing the below steps. Open Settings and go to Additional Settings. 
2. Click Backup and reset.
3. Tap on Reset phone.
4. Now tap the Erase all data option.
5. Tap Erase data.
